California early childhood professionals often bring extensive experience and a repertoire of non-unit-bearing training that cannot be applied to licensure or used as part of an academic pathway leading to degrees and credentials.
Categories of Credit for Prior Learning in the California Community College System
- Credit by Examination
- Evaluation of Joint Services Transcripts (Veterans)
- Evaluation of Student-Created Portfolios
- Evaluation of Industry-Recognized Credential Documentation and/or Standardized Exams (ie Real Estate).
The two most relevant to the ECE workforce are Industry Recognized Credentials and Evaluation of Student-Created Portfolios.
Industry Recognized Credentials
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing identifies that possession of a CDA issued by the Council on Professional Recognition qualifies a person for a Child Development Permit at the Associate Teacher Level.
Student-Created Portfolios
