California ECE Competencies Mapping Tool

The ECE Competencies Mapping Tool provides a way to determine where and to what extent courses and trainings align with California's ECE Competencies.

A shared goal of institutions of higher education and professional development providers is to develop a well-educated, highly skilled early childhood education workforce. The Early Education and Support Division (EESD) of the California Department of Education recently developed Early Childhood Educator Competencies to articulate the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for high quality care and education for young children.

Describing the desired competencies is not enough! The ECE Competencies Mapping Tool provides a way to determine where and to what extent courses and trainings align with California's ECE Competencies.

Designated “mappers” will use the web-based ECE Competencies Mapping Tool to compare their courses and trainings with the ECE Competencies. Through the mapping process, faculty and other professionals can determine how thoroughly competencies are addressed.

We encourage you to review the links and pages on this site to understand the Mapping Tool and its impact on the early childhood education field.
